Hot springs, powder skiing and succulent seafood in Japan's northeast
At the top of the mountain, you can get yourself a beer or coffee at the café and feast your eyes on the scenery below.
If you're lucky, you might also see Yamagata's famous Juhyo or ice monsters - gigantic snow sculptures created by the wind and weather near the top of the mountain (not pictured).
The best time to see Juhyo is supposed to be in late January or early February, but depends on prevailing weather conditions.
