Or if you're seeking a better view of the winter panoramas of Tohoku, try a cable car or gondola ride at one of the region's ski resorts, such as the Zao Ropeway in Yamagata Prefecture.

The Zao Ropeway takes you up the mountain to Jizo Sancho Station at 1661m above sea level, where you can enjoy a great view of the ski slopes below and the surrounding countryside, assuming the weather is fair. Do be warned that snow conditions might lower visibility at certain times of the day.
