Renegade restaurant guide names top eateries in France

In its annual list of best addresses across France, Le Fooding gave top nods to a small Parisian eatery on the eastern edge of the city, naming Roseval the best dinner table in their Le Fooding 2013 Restaurant Guide.

Helmed by American-born, Oxford-raised chef Michael Greenwold and Simone Tondo of Italy, who between them worked at Iñaki Aizpitarte’s Le Chateaubriand -- another cult favorite among the city's foodie hipster crowd -- and Paris-based Italian bistro Rino, the menu at Roseval is described as modern and seasonal, within an airy, minimalist setting set off by exposed brick and an unassuming façade.

For the menu, think lobster, bok choy, kumquats, and hazelnut soup, says Le Fooding, bone marrow, pork and smoke aubergines and marinated peaches.

Since opening in July, the restaurant has become the darling of the food blogging scene in Paris, with popular food writers like Alexander Lobrano, Adrian Moore and Anglophone blogs Paris By Mouth and The Paris Kitchen heaping praise on the eatery for its “pretty and tonic” uncomplicated fare and friendly, unpretentious atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the 2013 Le Fooding guide also singled out gourmet fast food sandwicheries and food trucks – a culinary concept that has taken the city by storm over the last year – as well as a French chef celebrity.

For example, gourmet sandwich joints Chez Aline and Abri were also singled out for their stacked, artisanal creations, while the finalist from the French version of reality show Top Chef was also given nods for his eponymously named eatery Pierre Sang.

The food truck that spawned a dozen would-be food trucks in Paris, Le Camion Qui Fume by US expat Kristin Frederick, was also given honors in the 2013 edition.
