Chocolate inspired by BFFs Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert launches
Playing off the dynamic of Bourdain’s signature black humor against Ripert’s generally friendly disposition, the Good & Evil bar is made with 72 percent cacao (Ripert) and dark cocoa nibs (Bourdain).
Created by Pennsylvania-based chocolatier Christopher Curtin, the chocolate is made from a rare variety of cacao called Pure Nacional which was thought to be extinct for nearly a century before being rediscovered in recent years among a collection of ancient Peruvian cacao trees.
During a trip deep into the Peruvian Andes last spring with Ripert, Curtin hand-selected the ‘Premier Cru Superior’ beans -- the superior first harvest of the year -- that would be used for the Good and Evil bars.
British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver also sells a range of premium chocolate bars that go by names like Tall Dark and Handsome for pure dark chocolate; Some Like it Hot, for a chili-spiked bar; and Smooth Operator for a milk chocolate lovers.
The 206 oz. Good & Evil bar will be available as of November 9 on Curtin’s artisanal online shop Eclat Chocolate.
