Southwest, Air Canada, Air France-KLM among safest airlines worldwide
The list of the 10 safest companies, presented in alphabetical order, features airlines based in North America, Europe, and Oceania.
The majority of the companies -- six -- are based in North America: Air Canada, AMR Corporation (American Airlines and American Eagles), Delta Airlines, United-Continental Holdings, US Airways and low-cost Southwest Airlines.
Three of the airlines are based in Europe: Air France-KLM, International Airlines Group (owner of British Airways) and Lufthansa.
Only one airline outside of Europe and North America made the list -- Qantas. In contrast to the last ranking, released in September 2011, no airlines based in Asia were ranked among the ten safest in the world.
The ranking, which looked at data from the 92 airlines with the highest revenue in the world, was based on a set of 15 criteria such as average age of an airline's fleet, number of staff, and accident rate.
