Venice Carnival: agenda of highlights

Most beautiful mask competition
From Saturday, February 2 - 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm 
Every day during the carnival, participants who have registered beforehand will go head to head during the most beautiful mask contest. 

Cooking demonstration
Saturday, February 2 - from 2.30pm to 3pm 
Michelin-starred chef Fabio Baldassarre will host a big colorful cooking show in front of thousands of visitors at St Mark's Square.

Festa delle Marie
Saturday, February 2 - from 2pm 
The traditional "Marie" parade, a beauty contest between2 young women chosen beforehand, will leave San Pietro di Castello and head to St Mark's Square at about 4pm.

Every night from Saturday, February 2 - from 6pm
In the evening, different DJs will mix international music for two hours. At 8.30pm there will be an Abba tribute concert (only on Saturday, February 2) and other concerts on other nights. 

'Secrets in Venice' Walking Theater Show
Saturday, February 2 - at 11am, 2.30pm and 4.30pm
At several times during the day, tourists will be able to follow a wandering theater troupe that will reveal "the secrets of Venice". Performances will begin at St. Mark's Square.

Flight of the Angel
Sunday, February 3 - 12pm 
Visitors can see an "angel" fly from the Campanile of St. Mark's Square to the Grand Theater. The angel will in fact be the 2012 winner of the "Marie" beauty contest. The event will end with a historical parade in traditional costume. 

Japanese cultureshowcase
Friday, February 8 - from 4pm to 5pm
Spectators will be able to immerse themselves in Japanese culture through the Kimono show featuring Japanese music, dance and choreography. 

Honoring Dagestan
Sunday, February 10 - from 1pm to 1.30pm
A dance troupe will demonstrate some of the country's folk dances.

Most beautiful mask final
Sunday, February 10 - 2.30pm
The finalists of the most beautiful mask will go head to head in the last round. The show will feature circus acts and Russian singing.

Fellini tribute concert
Sunday, February 10 - from 8.30pm
A philharmonic orchestra will honor the Italian director by interpreting music from his best known films. Tourists will also be able to watch a projection of the most beautiful scenes from his films. 

An evening of French song
Monday, February 11 - from 8.30pm
Gilda Singer will interpret the most beautiful love songs in French during this event called "La Vie en rose".

"Marie" election
Tuesday, February 12 - from 4pm
The 12 young women who paraded through the streets of Venice at the start of the carnival will return to St Mark's Square. One of them will be crowned "queen" during this beauty contest.

Mardi gras 
Tuesday, February 12 - from 8.30pm
A big concert featuring national and international artists will be held on St. Mark's Square to mark the end of the celebrations. 

The silent regatta
Tuesday, February 12 - from 11.30pm
Participants will bid farewell to the 2013 Carnival of Venice during the silent regatta. Gondolas will glide along the Grand Canal from the Rialto to St. Mark's Square.
