Times Square, Disneyland and Las Ramblas among most checked-in places on Facebook in 2012

There were no surprises when it came to the US's most popular check-ins with Times Square in New York topping the list, followed by Disneyland in Anaheim, California and the AT&T Park, a sports and music venue in San Francisco. Other popular check-ins included the Yankees Stadium in New York and the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

The most popular places in India for Facebook Check-ins included the Select Citywalk, a shopping and entertainment destination located in Saket, New Delhi. The Golden Temple in Amritsar came in second place, followed by the Gurudwara Shri Bangla Sahib, a Sikh site in Delhi.

In Brazil the Ibirapuera Park, one of the major urban parks in Sao Paulo -- built by famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, came in first place. The country's second most popular destination is the iconic Ipanema beach, followed by Copacabana beach, both located in Rio de Janeiro.

In France, the most visited country in the world, the most popular destination in 2012 was Disneyland Paris, followed by the Champs Elysées and the Eiffel Tower.

In Spain, the iconic avenue of Las Ramblas in Barcelona features as the most checked-in place followed by the Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Camp Nou, the football stadium in Barcelona comes in third place.
