Original New York pizzeria makes its mark in Soho, Central
Shoutout to all pizza fans -- hailing from New York, Motorino Hong Kong is tossing out fresh Neapolitan pizzas from mid-March onwards in the Soho district.
The buzz: Opening as the only chef-driven pizzeria in Hong Kong, our sources tell us that Motorino follows the requirements set out by the Italian government for a true Neapolitan pizza. The trademarks being fresh sun dried tomatoes covered in buffalo mozzarella cheese over a light airy crust with a wood fired oven crisp. Chef Mathieu Palombino of Motorino trained in Naples to learn the technique of the famous Neapolitan pie from its original birthplace -- it doesn't get more authentic than this. With two Motorino pizzerias to his name, Palombino has made his mark in Brooklyn and New York and now sets out to be the pizza topper of Hong Kong.

Atmosphere: Motorino Hong Kong is located in Soho on Shelley Street. The 1,500 square feet space is very Brooklyn-esque with marble topped tables, hardwood floors and tin pressed ceilings. Complementing this rustic charm, the walls are covered with hipster prints relating to motorinos, iconic Italian electric bikes. The venue can accommodate up to 45 guests and the option of outdoor seating is made available as well.
Food and drinks: Signature dishes include the brussels sprouts pizza, prosciutto di parma pizza, octopus salad, cockle clam crostino and heartwarming tiramisu.
The food is complemented with wine pairings as Motorino suggests pizza wines to enjoy with our meal. Bringing out the right flavours and highlighting the boldness of the ingredients used, pizza wines, traditionally red, is a fine companion to the Italian pie. One that should not be missed is their perfect pizza wine -- Gragnano, Cantine Federiciane, Napoli; a sparking light medium red.
