Review: Ozone Sunday Fiesta Brunch

Sunday brunches are not just about eggs benedict or dim sum anymore. The world's highest bar, Ozone at the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, now hosts a monthly Sunday Fiesta brunch to pamper guests with free flow cocktails, Champagne, and canapés, along with an amazing view of the Hong Kong skyline.

Atmosphere: The vibe of Ozone’s Sunday Fiesta resembled a more chilled-out version of a Saturday night party. As you step off the elevator on the 118th floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, resident DJ Frankie Lam sets the mood with lively lounge music to get the groove going.

The January 2013 edition of Sunday Fiesta kicked off with a traditional Spanish theme. Performances by two beautiful professional salsa dancers fired up the room with their slick and sexy moves. Diners who wanted to move along to the beat were invited to join the dancers for impromptu lessons to learn some basic steps.

Food and drink: Ozone’s signature cocktails on the Sunday Fiesta menu were exquisite in both appearance and taste. The Bloody Mary was an excellent hangover cure with an assertive Tabasco flavour, which was balanced nicely with a pinch of salt. We also loved the Champagne Mojito, which had a generous amount of lime juice and mint that cleansed our palettes with a summery freshness.

The buffet menu, on the other hand, included a large variety of hot and cold canapés, many of which were Asian-influenced. Everyone at our table loved the mini pulled back pork burger with gruyere cheese. The smoky barbecue sauce complemented the tender meat and the crispy toasted bun perfectly.

Crowd pleasers also included the Wagyu beef cubes served with tamarind and crispy shallots and the fresh sushi and maki rolls, as both were picked clean almost as soon as they were refilled. Nonetheless, the staff at Ozone did a great job in keeping the platters full of food throughout the brunch service. We were also impressed that they made sure our champagne glasses were never less than half-full at all times.

Verdict: There's no better way to round off the week than to spend a Sunday afternoon at the highest point in Hong Kong sipping glasses of Champagne and enjoying great food. Kick back and admire the stunning panoramic scenery across Victoria Harbour from a bird’s eye view. After our fifth or sixth glass of champagne, lost in the beat of the music and slightly intoxicated, the thought of Monday escaped our minds completely, even if it was just for a brief moment.

The Ozone Sunday Fiesta takes place every last Sunday of the month from 12pm to 3pm, and is priced at HK$688 plus 10 percent service charge.
