Need a break from a shopping frenzy in Seoul? Make a day trip to Chuncheon, the mountainous countryside capital of Gangwon-do, Korea's natural wonderland.

With a new high-speed train that cuts travel time to slightly over an hour, Chuncheon has never been more convenient and pleasant to visit. The Cheongchun Intercity Train Express takes you past fields, flowers and rivers via one of the most scenic routes in South Korea.

The train, which started operations earlier this year, leaves Yongsan Station in Seoul on the hour and costs 6,900won (S$8) one way.
